Call Me Maybe?

I miss talking on the phone. I miss it wholeheartedly. Talking for hours and hours about nothing and everything. I miss just listening to the sound of your voice droning on about nothing. I miss the midnight laughter. I even miss that gross sweaty feeling from holding the phone close to my face for so long. I miss choosing the exact split second to switch ears without you noticing I'm gone, just for a split second. I miss wondering if I missed anything in the split second lost in the changing of ears. Mostly, I miss the communication, the sharing, the nothing and the everything. So, call me maybe?

another step
struggling silently along
but they stand and watch you,
watch you like vultures
waiting for one wrong step
waiting

wrong step
and they pounce
devouring your pride
tearing to shreds your dignity
thinking somehow it nourishes them to see you fall to pieces
thinking


thinking?


perhaps if they looked deeper
they'd see the pain
swept across your brow
perhaps if they did not focus so much on themselves
they'd be aware that we all fall...
perhaps...


WE ALL FALL!


one step
you get up
and shake those vultures off
they are taken aback
you are stronger than before
another step
keep pressing forward
next thing you know
you are running along
looking back you see...
nothing.
the vultures are gone
they have disappeared into the distance
they are gone.
