SPRING!!!!!!

Spring is COMING!!!
I am an adamant believer that spring does not come till late September. This year the spring equinox comes on the 22nd to be precise (well, as precise as I can be with Wikipedia as a reference).

Don't get me wrong, I love winter. A lot. But this year, I CANNOT wait for spring. I need some newness and I feel we can all agree that spring brings a fresh new perspective...

Things I can't wait for:

Cardigans are enough to keep me warm again!! I love cardi's... They're my favourite fashion item.

Floral prints. I will never get enough...

"Spring break"... A mid-semester break is what I need right now...

Later sunsets....

Trees budding. Especially in Stellenbosch where the trees are a plenty!

New seasons of series that I love... (Grey's Anatomy: 27 September 2012. Can. You. Handle. It.)

I am keen for some spring vibes, I am ready!!!

In the Presence of Celebrities

Maties Kleinserfees has drawn to a close... What a sad, sad occasion. And yet so HAPPY!!! In my opinion the fairest judging that has ever taken place sent Hippo Dames AND Hippo Mans through to Bloem next weekend to represent our wonderful campus!

Last night after the results, I got to hang with these amazingly talented peeps as they celebrated victory. No amount of rain could stop the good times that rolled out!

I am truly happy for my friends! Congratulations!!!!Ultimate GROUPIE for life!!

If you're free next weekend, there will be a supporters bus going through to Bloem! Get your BEHIND on that bus!!!!!! It's going to EPIC! History has been made! Go watch some more take place!

pretty sounds...

Music moves me.

Today, the choir performed with Stellenberg High Choir and we performed on Friday as well, in Fish Hoek, an well, by the end of each show, I was in tears...

Like, full on, sniffily, sobbing tears. I couldn't figure it out at first. Then I tried to pin it on the fact that my Grandpa was in ICU this past week (he's okay!!!!! :):):):):) ) and yes, that has something to do with it, but it's not everything...

Music just moves me. The way it falls into dissonance and then just stays there, or the way it resolves. It's beautiful. It's the one way I feel I can really express myself...

So... Ja... Music... It moves me...

I hope you have something that moves you that way. We all need our safe space.

"I do not think... I contemplate"

Really? (I know it's been a while, so I'm going to try and just dive right back in.) The title of this post was a 'statement' from one of my housemates brother. It stuck with me the whole day...

Why??

At university, in every form and field that I am involved in, I have been pushed to think critically. Toward every aspect of human life, I need to stop and think critically. Do I really want toast? Some child in the middle of nowhere needs me to not use the electricity. Okay. I'll just have bread... But.

But what??

Let me eat my toast! In my opinion, society pushes contemplation as the way forward. But why?  What about good old thinking?

Auguste Rodin's sculpture, The Thinker, is one of the most well known piece of art today. Maybe, it's because in this day and age, it is rare to see somebody think...

I know some of you must be wondering... "Tanica, thinking and contemplating are the same thing...

No. I think not.

What is wrong with giving a straight answer these days? Always, we are beating around the bush, trying to be critical. If you do not have an immediate response, chances are you don't know enough on whatever topic it is, be it pop music or politics...

Please, please people...Let's put out thinking caps on and get off our behinds and do something about what goes on in our heads. No point just sitting around waiting for somebody to contradict you so that you can share your points of view... Chances are... Nobody cares...

Sorry, this may have been slightly bitchy.

SER SEASON!!!!

This year is my first year staying off the stage, and thus far... it has been incredibly bittersweet. The long and short of the story is that my group had to pull out due to members quitting. It broke my heart... But, now I get to support all my friends and, especially, my lover boy :):)

And because I love ser sooooo much, here are a few of my favourite videos:

The first video is from PUKKE 2012. It's insane to watch...

The following is my favourite in terms of moves, music arrangement, energy and, well, people :)

Well, my laptop was stolen last week with most of my vids, so this is all I'm going to share for now. To all those taking part in the festival that makes this my favourite time of year, good luck! See you on the stage!!

SHOUT...

So, this evening was a very interesting one, in a sense that I got highly challenged. Allow me to elaborate...

I live in what is called a Live 'n Learn house. The Live, Listen & Learn project is one where people from various backgrounds are placed intoa house together where they, well, live, then listen and learn from one another. Each house has a theme to work around. The theme of my house is Influence as a Tool for Ethical Leadership...

So, this evening we had a house meeting with the co-ordinator of the project, and he challenged us to be more reflective in our writing... I admit, I've been a bit of an informational blogger, but I did start blogging so that I can question more and share my version of the answers...

So, you can expect a little more thought input when it comes to these posts... :)

After (the meeting), I went to Maties Talent final where my friend, Christian Sittmann (also, future bandmate (!!!!) even if he doen't know), performed. As Sittmann was last, I got to listen to all the other peeps and watch them dance & act... And it was wonderful. And it hit me... Why am I not there? Up on the stage where I actually love to be... I don't actually have the answer as of yet, but I'm hoping to rectify that situation as soon as possible.

But now to the point of my long story... In the middle of the show Kabelo, a famous South African artist, came and spoke to us about SHOUT. THeyuse music to raise funds for the Shout Foundation, which helps with reducing crime in SA. Having been robbed last week, I found myself really interested in their project. They perform a really cool song & get everyone involved and then they sell it to raise funds. To get the track, sms VOICE to 49300 and donate R20.

It's also a really great song. Do your bit for your country, even if it's not this. Which ties into what Trevor Manuel said when he was in Stellenbosch. Do your bit for your country. If you sit back and do nothing, you have no right to complain and if you are doing something, complaining is just a negetive bringer down of our country... just saying...

Deep Post Out.
